Backpacking Hammock
The Non-Traditional Backpacking Hammock
Probably the two most common items that people think of when the word camping is mentioned are a tent and a sleeping bag. An item that many individuals do not think of is a backpacking hammock. Perhaps because a hammock is most associated with lounging by the pool, the camping conscious ignores the hammock.
Truth be told, sleeping bags are fun, but the ground that a sleeping bag rests on top of is hardly what would ever be defined as comfortable. Being out and under the stars is cool and all, but being out and about in the stars in a comfortable manner is far more preferred. While some manly, man men may enjoy roughing it, these guys will generally wish they had a backpacking hammock when they find themselves on muddy ground. A backpacking hammock can help someone ‘rise above’ the muddy earth and have a nice view of the mud from high above.
Also, a backpacking hammock is light and easy to transport. Unlike a sleeping bag, a hammock is not a burden to have to transport. While the traditional sleeping bag attached to a backpack looks cool, it still weighs a lot. Who wants to lug a ton of weight around while lost in the wilderness?
Camping is wonderful, but it has to be the only activity that involves making life as uncomfortable as possible. When something such as a backpacking hammock comes out, it is surprising that people don’t toss their sleeping bags away. Then again, some places do get a little too cold for a hammock. It is pretty doubtful one can hang up a hammock on Mt. Everest. But, for people who are not insane and avoided camping in places where death is not really a possibility, a backpacking hammock is a wise option.
